This girl's pedigree is impressive. Go look at the long line of cowdogs she has in her background once we get her pedigree up. She is a pup out of our Evie - Reese mating. This gal at three months old showed she has what it takes. She wanted those old goats so bad she climbed out of the puppy pen, dug out under the barn door, then made her way out to the mini goat pens were we train pups on. She had those whily old goats up on the feed bins facing her until Dan found her and put her back into the puppy pen. She was so proud of herself it did not do to scold as she showed what she could do, did not harm the livestock, and put them where we had been putting the goats at night anyway. Plus she is a Red pup with almost olive green eyes that has a soft coat. When she looks at you you know she is thinking. We look forward to starting her training April of 2012.
Greta has grown and at 6 months there so far has been nothing that scars her. Other dogs may be too big to win the match with yet she still trys to be top female from time to time. She has show there is nothing safe to move in the house or outside where she can get to it that should not be herded. She is a header when shes trys to move stock. There is a reason Robin calls her the Herding Gertty Girl. This little brown pup will not stay little, Gerta at 6 months is as tall as May is full grown and almost as long. She shows signs to be a dog with strong eye, quick moves, nice balance, and easy to train, then add that she is not afraid of the B_I_T_E. Yet she is learning livestock ways. She does not go right into the group and fight her way out she is of the book move little, use your power, move a lot. Yet this pup sleeps at your feet while we do our evening books, she sleeps in the bed without taking it all like some other dogs we know. She is quick to learn. Let her watch someone do something and dang if she will not try it herself often doing an okay job of it all things taken into account.
Gerta is shown at 12 months old in the slide show off the side, has started her training. She was allowed to be a pup and grow into being a herding dog. Not all pups need this time to grown and knowing which need time to start training is part of what we do. |
